Serviceability Analysis of Pedestrian Overhead Bridges and Underpasses

A grade-separated crossing allows a bicycle/pedestrian to continue over or under barrier without conflict with vehicle. However, the serviceability of these facilities is compromised in underdeveloped countries, including Pakistan. This research examines effectiveness pedestrian bridges and underpasses terms their usage by pedestrians. total 80,017 crossings were observed at four sites (3 overhead one underpass) for weeks (one week per site) using manual video photography. The data about age, gender, each was collected analyzed chi-square test, t-test, descriptive analysis. study site selection based on different characteristics, i.e., number lanes, type median barriers, facility (bridge/underpass). analysis shows that most pedestrians (71.83%) did not use facilities, resulting poor structures. comparison between also reveals underpass (62.5%) statistically more significant than bridge (11.62%). There an effect age (p<0.001) gender as well, aged 25 years old females counterparts. provides implications barriers height facilities. lanes presence barrier, well (number steps), are primary factors influencing crossings.
